Description:

Our client is looking for a Chief Executive Officer, who will be reporting to the Board of Directors, and is responsible for the organization’s consistent achievement of its mission and financial objectives. You possess a keen interest in the history of Canadian-American relations and acquired sensitivity to the ways in which good history and scholarship inform and enhance successful heritage tourism.

Experience/ Education:

Post secondary education or equivalent experience in the following fields;

  • Non-profit management, administration and human resources
  • Grant management or grant writing; non-profit fundraising
  • Marketing, Community and/or Economic development
  • Historical and Humanitarian appreciation

A minimum of 10 years related work experience or a minimum of 8 years work experience (w/ Bachelors Degree) or a minimum of 5 years work experience (w/ Graduate Degree) with a successful track record in some of the following fields;

  • Non-profit management, administration and human resources
  • Community and/or Economic development
  • Event planning and coordination
  • Volunteer Recruitment and stakeholder management
  • Grant management or grant writing; non-profit fundraising

A basic understanding of both Canadian and American bookkeeping and accounting procedures is a definite asset. Proven skills in marketing, presentation, negotiation, decision making, planning, organization, relationship management and dispute resolution in addition to basic computer literacy

Requirements/ Responsibilities:

  • Establish marketing/communications plan for development and deliverance
  • Assure the organization has a long-range strategy which achieves its mission, and toward which it makes consistent and timely progress
  • Provide leadership in developing program, organizational and financial plans with the Board and staff, and carry out plans and policies authorized by the Board
  • Ensure the development of priority plans, performance measurements, management controls and critical success factors
  • Maintain official records and documents, and ensure compliance with federal, state and local regulations
  • Maintain a working knowledge of significant developments and trends in the field
  • Act as the Management spokesperson for the association
  • See that the Board is kept fully informed on the condition of the organization and all important factors influencing it
  • Be responsible for the recruitment, employment and release of all personnel, both paid staff and volunteers
  • Ensure that job descriptions are developed, that regular performance evaluations are held and that sound human resources practices are in place
  • Work with staff, Finance Committee, and the Board in preparing a budget; see that the organization operates within budget guidelines
  • Identify sources, follow leads and write grant proposals to assist the Board in ensuring adequate funds are available to permit the organization to carry out its functions
  • Work with government agencies, funding sources, community organizations and other groups to form agreements, partnerships and linkages in the development of organizational services and goals to establish community and tourism awareness
  • Grant and contract writing for funding from philanthropic and not-for-profit foundations as well as funding from local, provincial and federal governments related to the management of programs
  • Supervise all brand development, licensing, management and protection

2012 marks the Bicentennial of the War of 1812 and the celebration of 200 years of peace and prosperity between the United States and Canada. The Niagara 1812 Bicentennial Legacy Council was created, in the spirit of bi-national cooperation and cultural tourism growth, to act as the Ambassador for these celebrations.

This is a contract position through 2015.
