Description:

Reporting to the Project Manager, the Construction Superintendent will plan, direct, coordinate, and budget the construction of the Commercial facility in Sault Ste Marie. Additionally, you will schedule and coordinate all design and construction processes, including the selection, hiring, and oversight of specialty trade contractors, such as civil, mechanical, and electrical.

The ideal candidate will combine a bachelor's degree in construction science, construction management, building sciences and/or civil engineering with a minimum of 10 years experience in construction management.
Familiarity with local building codes, occupational health & safety requirements and detailed record keeping is a must. Proficiency in MS Office is required. |
Requirements/
Responsibilities:

- Reports to the project manager.
- To supervise all facets of the construction process from the conceptual development stage through final construction, making sure that the project gets completed on time and within budget.
- Manage the selection of contractors and specific trades to complete the project tasks.
- To develop and maintain cost estimates and schedules for construction project.
- Ensure all permits and licenses are obtained.
- Ensure compliance to all applicable building or safety codes, or other requirements set by the project’s insurers.
- Oversee the delivery of materials, tools and equipment.
- To ensure worker safety and productivity.
- Responsible for the overall quality of the construction.

Construction superintendents should be flexible and work effectively in a fast-paced environment. They should be decisive and work well under pressure, particularly when faced with unexpected events or delays. The ability to manage several major activities at once, while analyzing and resolving specific problems, is essential, as is an understanding of engineering, architectural, and other construction drawings. Familiarity with computers and software programs for job costing, online collaboration, scheduling, and estimating also is important. |
