Ask The Expert
QUESTION:
If
I am asked what is my weakness, how do I end it up with a positive
note?
ANSWER:
The
questions "What are your weaknesses", or "Where are
there areas for improvement" are challenging for every candidate,
regardless of how they are worded. On one hand, if you are honest
and actually tell someone about your weakness you may talk yourself
out of a position, and on the other, you don't want to give yourself
a backward compliment e.g "Sometimes I work too hard".
Always
remember that the interviewer is only interested in work related
weaknesses and it is best to think back to performance evaluations
or constructive criticism that we have all received throughout
our work history. When speaking of the particular item do not
go on and on. Identify it, and then let the employer know that
you not only accepted the constructive criticism but indicate
how you have worked very hard to make sure that you do not make
the same mistakes or continue with the same behaviour. By doing
this you are ending the question in a positive note, and showing
the employer that you are willing to listen and act positively
upon constructive criticism.
