QUESTION:

I know that current employees must have access to their personnel files in HR, are they allowed to take photocopies of their file? Does this also apply to terminated employees?

ANSWER:

Current employees do have access to the information in their personnel files and can request a copy. The files are the property of the employer, however terminated employees will eventually have access to the information if they challenge the decision. There should not be anything in the file that they are not aware of and the employer would not be prepared to share.
