Operations Manager- Construction

Position Description
The Operations Manager will be responsible for the overall business operations of the Company under the direction of Ownership. The focus is building a long-term sustainable business, by mirroring our values and business ethics. The Operations Manager will be a strategic thinker, with the expertise and foresight to guide and direct a team of construction professionals related to business development, estimating, project execution and project support staff. This role requires a motivated individual having extensive experience along with broad operations experience related to construction groundworks including: grading and site servicing, excavation and backfill, trucking and aggregates, concrete foundations and flatwork. With advanced construction operation skills, you are adept in areas including performance management and skill building to ensure functional team collaboration, best practices in construction contractual agreements and execution methods, financial and project progress reporting while fully contributing to company’s culture, mission and values through thoughtful leadership and actions.

  • P.Eng., C.E.T., or other industry related designation
  • 5 - 10 years of previous construction management experience
  • Ability to understand and interpret financial data and performance analysis
  • An excellent general business sense
  • Ability to organize and manage multiple priorities
  • Strong ethical values and a good work ethic
  • A demonstrated ability to lead high-performing teams and get results through others
  • Problem analysis and resolution at both the strategic and functional levels
  • Ability to manage change and work well under pressure

  • Ensure skilled workforce in the field 
  • Develop metrics to measure the efficiency and effectiveness of all operating divisions
  • Ensure regular communication is maintained with ownership regarding business activities
  • Maintain regular contact with customers and suppliers to build a positive relationship
  • Ensure project profitability targets are achieved
  • Initiates and coordinates development of action plans to penetrate new markets
  • Meets with Supervisors on regular basis to ensure production targets are consistently achieved
  • Establish best practices to ensure project flow
  • Ensure compliance with Ministry of Labour and safety standards
  • Establish policies and procedures that develop the use of best practice techniques, implementing action plans and evaluation methods
  • In conjunction with Human Resources, is responsible for employment action necessary within the functions supervised in a manner consistent with company policy
  • In conjunction with ownership and Human Resources, is responsible for the development of an organizational structure that meets current operational needs and future company growth by ensuring a proper skill set amongst the workforce including upskilling to create high performers
