Our client a leading manufacturer in the Niagara Region is searching for a 1st Class Power Engineer to take on the rewarding and challenging role. The 1st Class Power Engineer provides direct supervision to the Operating Engineers and prioritizes maintenance activities. In accordance with the Operating Engineers Act, conducts daily work activities in support of HSE objectives and policies. Uses personal accountability to assist with carrying out duties, responsibilities, and authority as defined in HSE programs, practices, and procedures. Works safely with respect to health and environmental requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervises the operation of all Utilities equipment and staff.
  • Supervises/manages the Assistant Shift Engineers and Utilities operations in all plant areas.
  • Prioritizes maintenance activities for the Utilities area.
  • Conducts inspection of critical equipment
  • Works with Utilities leadership groups to optimize employee relations.
  • Conducts performance reviews and performance planning for subordinates. Recommends specific training requirements for employees.
  • Practices and promotes Quality Management and Safe Working Principles
  • Ensures Health, Safety and Environmental objectives, polices and practices are followed.

Required Education & Qualifications:

  • Must possess a valid 1st Class Operating Engineer’s License or possess a valid 2nd Class Operating Engineer License and currently working toward their 1st Class License.
  • Successful completion of a Community College Diploma in Power Engineering Technology or a related field of study or equivalent knowledge and experience.
  • Strong knowledge of power generation/transmission technology, water and wastewater treatment including processes, procedures, and related systems in a plant environment.
  • Knowledge of Operating Engineers Act, Boilers, Pressure Vessels, and fuels.
  • Knowledge of all applicable TSSA regulations.
  • Sound knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and regulations.
  • High level of problem-solving/analytical skills, strong organizational and coordination skills including Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook
  • SAP knowledge/experience would be an asset.
