Our client, a thriving company in the Marine Industry, is seeking a full-time Heavy-Duty Equipment Mechanic who has extensive and proven expertise in their trade to join their team. The successful candidate is an industry leader and professional with superior skills in the areas of rotating equipment as well as the rebuild, repair, and installation of medium and slow-speed diesel engines. The Heavy-Duty Equipment Mechanic will work hands-on with minimal supervision in both a shop environment and in the field and must be a self-starter. The individual will have the opportunity to grow within the company and with proven skill and capacity, will start as, or eventually fill a lead hand or foremen position. The heavy-duty equipment mechanic position will provide opportunities for challenge, growth, and reward.

Education

  • High school diploma
  • Certified Journeyperson in the Heavy-Duty Equipment technician trade or equivalent designated trade preferred
  • Minimum 5 years experience in an industrial environment
  • Experience with equipment makers such as MAK, MAN, Wartsila, Sulzer and others
  • Large power transmission (gearbox) repairs and rebuilds experience
  • Knowledge of engine cooling, fuel delivery
  • Top-end to bottom-end rebuilds/repairs
  • Knowledge of rotating equipment requirements to assess and evaluate repairs during emergency breakdowns
  • Superior skills, you must be a true specialist in medium and slow-speed diesel engines
  • Self-starter capable of working productively under no supervision
  • Excellent mathematical skills
  • Fluent English in both conversational and technical terms (written and oral)
  • Available and willing to work overtime as needed
  • Valid drivers license 

Requirements

  • Diagnose, rebuild, repair, and install medium and slow-speed diesel engines
  • Full alignments (engine to gearbox, engine to alternator, pumps etc.) laser or manual
  • Interpret work orders and technical manuals,
  • Diagnose faults or malfunctions
  • Adjust equipment and repair or replace defective parts, components, or systems
  • Test repaired equipment for proper performance and ensure that the work done meets manufacturers' specifications and legislated regulations
  • Complete service reports
