Our client, an established manufacturing company, is looking for an experienced Maintenance Manager to join their team. Reporting to the Operations Manager, the Maintenance Manager is responsible for leading, developing, implementing, providing guidance, and overseeing all equipment throughout the facility related to equipment operations, fleet mechanics, scheduling development of equipment, troubleshooting breakdowns, preventative maintenance, administration, workplace complaint investigations, waste management, recruitment and retention, training, development, coaching, mentoring, and discipline.
This position reports into the Operations Manager and is responsible for the supervision of the Maintenance Supervisor, Industrial Millwright Mechanics & Apprentices, Industrial Electricians, Maintenance Planner, Systems Control Specialist, and Heavy Equipment Mechanic who work in the department.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Managing new equipment start-ups in order to ensure that all systems are fully capable of a 24/7 operation to meet production schedules;
- Ensuring that adequate tools, processes, and personnel capabilities are continuously developed and maintained for an efficient and continuous production system;
- Managing maintenance personnel and workers and overseeing sub-contractors during equipment installation, equipment repair and preventative maintenance;
- Leading activities related to construction and installation projects to ensure compliance with established engineering and safety standards;
- Ensuring safe standards and practices are developed and followed within all areas in order to provide for a safe work environment;
- Ensuring proper equipment controls are developed, implemented, and maintained in order to ensure the final product exceeds API requirements and maintains the business’s leading position for quality and reliability;
- Developing and implementing predictive and preventative maintenance programs and measurements for equipment, including the management of a spare parts strategy;
- Administering procurement and fiscal management activities which will include monitoring project spending, recommending and implementing corrective spending plans, reviewing and authorizing purchase orders, administering contracts, and obtaining quotes and bids;
- Developing the specification requirements for proposals and contracts;
- Leading continuous improvement and problem-solving initiatives;
- Developing and implementing Maintenance Department processes to ensure consistency of personnel and their activities;
- Ensure that records are maintained of all adjustments made to the processes and
- Ensure that all equipment used in the processes is properly monitored, inspected, and evaluated and that records of equipment operating status are prepared and available;
- Manages, monitors, adjusts, and maintains all remote monitoring systems;
- As part of the Management team, assisting with the design and development of organizational policies and safety procedures relevant to the overall facility;
- Monitoring and managing the work of external sub-contractors to ensure that the terms of the agreement are met and the work is completed to satisfaction;
- Collecting and analyzing a variety of complex data and information, including utility costs and usage;
- Performing statistical analysis, summarizing findings in regular reports, and developing and presenting recommendations;
- Periodically observes maintenance work of quantity of work, methods, and procedure is used to ensure equipment maintenance members are carrying out planned and scheduled work;
- Oversee the day-to-day operations of the maintenance team;
- As an overall administrator for operations, be available for uses arising requiring decision-making.
Secondary Responsibilities:
- Conferring with management, supervisors, and front-line workers in order to report human relations risks and assist in mediation to resolve concerns;
- Compliance with Environmental Health and safety standards and engagement with the EHS program and duties as assigned;
- Provide coaching and expertise to other members by sharing expertise and working as a team to meet common business objectives;
- Identify continuous improvement opportunities to drive efficiency and cost savings;
- Participating in meetings and committees to communicate information and serve as a liaison with other departments and managers;
- Adhere to and comply with all applicable company policies and procedures;
- Developing, recommending, and overseeing proposals and contracts
- Monitoring and managing the work of external contractors to ensure that the terms of the agreement are met and the work is completed to the satisfaction
- Assessing staffing requirements with the responsibility of recommending hiring and dismissing employees as required, training and mentoring
- Researching new technology and machinery that can be used in the production process
- Other duties as assigned for which he/she has received required training, possesses qualifications, and/or is considered competent.
Educational and Experience Requirements for this Position:
- Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering;
- Preferred, Registered as a Professional Electrical Engineer;
- A minimum of 5 years related work experience in installing and maintaining a variety of equipment in an automated, high-tech production facility;
- In addition, at least 5 years of experience in managing a team of maintenance technicians, with the ability to effectively coordinate efforts with other professional engineers;
- Proven experience in project management, including an ability to facilitate the successful conclusion of a large project;
- Experience with highly automated production lines that utilize PLCs, SCADA systems and software-driven control systems;
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, AutoCAD and recognized PLC programs;
- Proven report writing ability;
- Satisfactory criminal reference check in accordance with the company’s policy;
