Our client, a local manufacturer who designs and produces suspension products for automobile manufacturers across North America, is looking for a creative and independent Process Engineer- Cold Forming to join their team. Reporting to the Staff Engineer responsible for cold forming, & hot steel forgings, the Process Engineer will implement & support all cold forming and hot forging manufacturing processes from cradle to grave, including 3D CAD (CATIA) design, process definition including forging simulation, specification & installation of new equipment, process improvements of existing lines and cost estimating. 

 

Job Duties:

  • Co-ordinate major programs (new product launch/new manufacturing equipment) with minimal supervision, including direct contributions to the APQP processes.
  • Co-ordinate all the engineering activities related to process, including design development, vendor contact, and inter-departmental liaison.
  • Co-ordinate design activity both internally and at vendors for tooling and equipment.
  • Review product drawings for manufacturability.
  • Initiate and implement product/process cost reduction programs.
  • Co-ordinate customer prototype build requirements.
  • Work on CAD to perform analysis & investigation & tool design.
  • Research and develop new product/process technology.
  • Make technical presentations and reports.
  • Complete Process Failure Modes and Effect Analysis (FMEA).
  • Review capability studies, SPC charts, and help develop action plans to resolve issues.
  • Review and resolve product/process change requests from product engineering, manufacturing, and suppliers. 

Requirements:

Education/ Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or Technologist Diploma in an applicable Engineering discipline from an accredited University or College. Applicable post-graduate studies may be credited towards work experience.
  • Candidates with experience suitable to the job description may also satisfy the requirements.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license.
  • Must be legally able to work in Ontario. 

Experience:

  • Manufacturing engineering experience;
  • Experience on the shop floor working with operators.
  • Experience with hot & cold forging processes.
  • Knowledge and understanding of cold forming
  • Knowledge of metal flow
  • Experience with different types of metals
  • Good working knowledge of FMEA, APQP, GD&T.
  • Good working knowledge of IATF/ISO quality requirements.
  • Significant 3D CAD experience
